Gaby Ooms

As a health scientist with a specialisation in global health, Gaby has been involved in HAI’s research since 2016, when she studied access to internationally controlled essential medicines (ICEMs) in Uganda. Since 2017, Gaby has been responsible for the research activities across HAI’s projects on sexual and reproductive health, snakebite envenoming, internationally controlled essential medicines, and antimicrobial resistance. She also manages HAI’s research capacity-strengthening training, oversees the internship programme, and is responsible for research consultancies contracted to HAI. Previously, she completed a research project on the compulsory licensing processes in Colombia and Ecuador at the non-governmental organisation, Fundación IFARMA, in Colombia.

In 2023 Gaby obtained a PhD from the Utrecht Centre for Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulation at Utrecht University, combining her doctoral research activities with her work at HAI. She holds a BSc in Health Sciences and a Research MSc in Global Health.
