Emma Shiffman

Emma is a global health researcher working as Research Manager at Health Action International since 2026. Having worked in both communication and research coordination roles in Dutch global health organisations, she brings experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis, international project coordination and stakeholder engagement.

Before joining HAI, Emma worked as Research Coordinator at the Access to Medicine Foundation, where her research focused on mobilising the pharmaceutical industry to improve access to medicines in low- and middle-income countries. In this role, she coordinated the development of Access to Medicine Index reports and presented findings to stakeholders across the pharmaceutical industry, investors, non-governmental organisations and academia. She also coordinated the development of the second phase of the Foundation’s Generic and Biosimilar Medicine Manufacturers programme, focusing on supply and availability of essential medicines across Africa.

Emma holds an MSc in Epidemiology from Utrecht University, where her research focused on early neurolinguistic predictors of Alzheimer’s disease as well as changes in depressive symptoms across different ethnic groups living in Amsterdam throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
