Policy Advisor, Trade, Innovation and Intellectual Property (European Projects)
Tessel is an intellectual property law specialist with European Union (EU) policy expertise. Leading our campaigns on European trade and access, and essential innovation and access, she advocates for EU trade policies that support its existing commitments on health and development. She also presses for changes to EU internal market laws that hamper access to medicines in Europe, as well as new models for needs-driven, affordable biomedical innovation.
Prior to joining Health Action International in 2012, Tessel worked as an attorney-at-law for a large Dutch law firm. There, she specialised in intellectual property law in the areas of biotechnology and life sciences. She combined this legal experience with a Master of International Relations from the University of Amsterdam and a postgraduate course from the international relations think tank, Clingendael.
Tessel is originally from The Netherlands and speaks Dutch, English and French.
